The Hit Drama Confirmed for 7th Season on BBC
The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh season, confirmed by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-episode season created by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Belfast this spring, according to the network.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the return, stating she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."
The previous series wrapped up in recent years with a finale that drew in over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but official word only came recently.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
The seventh season will open with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings remain tasked to tackle corruption within the police force.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer celebrated for busts of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to act as a offender.
Yet, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the shadows, the teaser hinted.
In a statement, the creator said: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had so many followers watch the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh season."
He added: "Corruption in this country was thought to be over while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston called appearing in the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he added.
Vicky McClure remarked: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is returning! Can't wait to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be back filming soon."
"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those unexpected plot developments."
Series Legacy
The drama launched in 2012 and evolved into one of the most popular TV dramas of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.
Broadcasters has not yet announced when the new season will hit screens.
The finale of series six drew the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a conclusion, and producers said at the moment there were no intentions for additional seasons.
However, the corporation announced on this week that a new season is now in development.
