Manchester United Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Acquisition for United

The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
