Lautaro Martínez Double Keeps Inter Milan on Tail of Leaders
Inter forward Lautaro Martínez scored a second-half double to secure his side a 2-0 victory at Pisa, ensuring the away side firmly engaged in the Serie A title race despite a less than convincing display.
Standings Update
Led by Cristian Chivu, Inter currently are placed in third position in the table with 27 points, level with runner-up Roma and only one point behind leaders Milan. In contrast, Pisa occupy the third bottom position with 10 points.
Game Recap
Inter traveled in Tuscany looking to get back on track after enduring a loss to rivals by Milan last weekend, which was followed by a Champions League defeat at Atlético Madrid. However, they were made to battle all the way by promoted Pisa. The home team created plenty of opportunities, but a clinical Inter broke the deadlock in the 69th minute when Argentine Martínez smacked a first-time shot into the top of the net. The attacker then tapped in from point-blank seven minutes from time.
Inter’s ability to score even with difficult circumstances proved crucial in securing the victory.
