Fans Call for Arrest of Person Who Touched Ariana Grande
Devoted fans of the pop star are urging that a man who jumped a barrier and grabbed the celebrity during the recent Wicked: For Good premiere be detained or removed from Singapore.
A widely shared clip reveals the Australian man pushing past photographers and lunging at Grande while the cast proceeded down a promenade accompanied by onlookers.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the stunned performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the gathering by guards.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram recently that he was "free after being arrested", though court documents revealed that he was due to attend court on the following morning. It is not clear if he was formally accused.
Pattern of Event Invasions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Notorious Troublemaker", has invaded a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed contains recordings of him interrupting other star-studded functions, including breaching the performance area at the pop singer's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last December.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is evidently a punishable act," wrote an Instagram user, in a reply to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his behavior.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user wrote.
Followers Voice Worry Over Ariana's Safety
Several supporters criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder after a devastating incident at the conclusion of her 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and wounding many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" wrote a further message on Instagram.
A number of fans also questioned event staff at the Thursday event for not being sufficiently alert; while different individuals requested online networks to remove Mr Wen's uploads.
Aftermath and Event Details
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande appeared shocked when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the remaining proceedings proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of attendees had gathered in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it began.
The film, to be launched on November 21, is the sequel of a two-part interpretation of the popular Broadway and West End musical Wicked, which revolves around the surprising friendship between two contrasting witches.
The production itself is a spin-off of the 1900 story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a rosé sequin dress at the gathering while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble embroidered with roses.
They were alongside fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the most successful movie of the previous year in the UK, and received ten Academy Award nods, winning two for best costume and production design.
