Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Heated Debates Over Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Recently, the game developers introduced a new playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough format but includes several key adjustments:

  • Each team includes just 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities done by real players award full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, this mode delivers on its title: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides more options for gamers seeking different ways to enjoy the title. However, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 players are mad.

Community Reactions: From Fury to Praise

"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while another lists everything they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."

However, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," adds another. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Player Feedback

All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it could increase wait times even longer for other modes due to the large amount of options currently available. On a similar note, certain regions often face mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was meant to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist seems like the community compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. A different user describes this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?

Should the development team has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
