Arne Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot admitted that it was natural for questions to be asked about his position following a further heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in 12 matches, representing the club's poorest run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got significant backing from the top,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I accept my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to provide details on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard exchanges I feel the trust. But I've not talked to them after this game yet so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Problems and Squad Response
Slot expressed regret over known failings from his squad in their European loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a spell like this with results this poor.”
He finished, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we'll continue to fight.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to the top, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it needs to change.”
