A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.

While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a new presidential term.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future free from concern.”

The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The swine, provided by a first responder, was named for the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “6-7” – originating from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A Future Secured

The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.

“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, diverse, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Annually, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”

Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and strong coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
