A Pair of Men Detained Over Phone Concealed in House of Commons to Reportedly Broadcast Sex Noises At PMQs

Law enforcement have taken into custody two men in connection with a mobile phone found concealed within the parliamentary chamber, which was allegedly intended to emit inappropriate audio throughout the prime minister’s questions.

Discovery and Investigation

The device was uncovered close to the frontbench in the course of a standard security check of the hall. Authorities suspect it was meant to disrupt the keynote weekly showdown between political leaders in the autumn month.

An official representative stated, “Around mid-morning on that specific date, a mobile phone was discovered while conducting a standard inspection of the parliamentary hall.”

Detentions and Charges

Investigations led officers to believe that the device was purposely placed in a spot with the aim of creating interference to business in the house.

  • A man in his 30s was arrested on Friday 5 September on suspected grounds of trying to deliberately cause a public nuisance.
  • Another man in his sixties was arrested on Tuesday 30 September on suspicion of the identical charge.
  • The two have been bailed to appear at a later date.

Precautions and Impact

Increased security measures were introduced in the House of Commons after the phone was found. Sound-guided visits and guided tours were cancelled, and there was reduced access to the Commons chamber.

The upper house followed suit to reduce access to the Lords Chamber “as a precautionary measure.”

Officials noted, “Enquiries continue, and we are updating the speaker and clerk informed with our investigation.”

Gravity of the Incident

The event is being treated seriously as it constitutes a major breach of parliamentary security. This device was found while hundreds security staff based in Westminster were on industrial action over wages and terms.

Consequently, visitors were prohibited from the parliamentary estate. The union stated that the strike went ahead due to reduction of annual leave entitlements, stagnant pay, and an wage disparity based on race.
